Four Democrats running to replace longtime U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer in the 3rd Congressional District weighed in on national and international issues from the war in Gaza to the future of American democracy in a debate hosted by the Portland Metro Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Dexter also said that Trump has undermined democracy and is a threat. She called for Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which would reestablish the federal government’s power to crack down on voter discrimination in states.

But she said she has found many Republicans in the state Legislature “who want to get good work done” and would look to do the same in Congress. She said she is “renowned for working with other people, treating them with respect and finding solutions.”
