State Rep. Maxine Dexter, D-Portland, is throwing her hat in the ring for an open seat in the U.S. Congress.

After 52 years in elected office, U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer announced last month that he will not seek reelection in 2024 to Oregon Congressional District 3. He has served in Congress for 28 years.

“As a mom, physician, and legislator I’ve dedicated my life to caregiving, solving urgent problems and creating lasting change -- in the hospital and clinic, in our public schools, and in the State House,” Dexter wrote in a Dec. 5 press release. “Now I’m running for Congress because I’m ready to create the same transformational, life-saving change for Oregonians on a scale that is greater than ever before in my life and work.”
